Ask Hermana Martha, ¡otra vez!

I have now learned something new for my jewelry-making hobby. In my last post I received help from Hermana Martha in cutting down the length of my too-large bracelet. You can see that bracelet and some earrings I made here. Now, recently I have gone again to Hermana Martha to ask for help on a necklace.

This necklace was a prototype of mine, and I found that it is not really suitable wire to work well. The problem was that I chose a thick wire that is very stiff and stays bent where you bend it. This was a problem
because then I did not know how to attach a jump ring or lobster claw to it.  I was able to put the beads and stones on there that I wanted, but then reached my dilemma. I had absolutely no idea what to do to finish the necklace. At that moment I had a nice string of stones I could do absolutely nothing with. I looked on the internet to see if I could find something to finish it, but everyone else seemed to have found out already that my thick piece of wire does not work well. Then, Mom and I thought of it! Hermana Martha is very good at jewelry making; maybe she knows something to fix the necklace.  When I showed it to her, she said she could fix it, and she would bring her own tools to fix it that evening (it was in between Sunday School and Sunday Morning service right then.) She came that evening and bent the wire into a hoop and hook, so I did not even need to use my lobster claw or jump ring!

So, now I know how to fashion a hoop and hook out of thick wire, if I ever decide to make jewelry out of that wire again. Thank you for helping me yet again with my jewelry making, Hermana Martha.

    Glad to see you are enjoying the jewelry kit and beads I sent you. Do you have my Christmas earrings made yet? I think the lobster claws and jump rings make the jewelry look nicer, but that's up to you. :) xxxx's

    Many years ago I bought a choker style wire with a single charm hanging on it from a company called Caroline Emmons. The wire was much thicker than what you were working with here. They did something similar....it was two hooks, one on each side. And, they were turned in such a way that it was very easy to push them past each other and let them slide into place. Hermana Martha was pretty smart to come up with that. By the way....I love your bead choices on this.

      I had a very thick gold band choker for a necklace to be made with these stones (I have five or six big centerpiece stones), but I decided I liked the thinner wire with little stones and beads around it better. I'm glad you like my beads, I usually not great at matching. ;)

With Apologies to Robert Frost

I have a class for school called Speech. This is supposed to help me learn how to stand properly while speaking, pronounce words properly, and so on. The most recent section is on how to give meaning and feeling to a  poem when reading one out loud. My teacher, Mrs. Autrey, has been reciting poems to us as examples, and she uses a variety such as happy poems, sad poems, thoughtful and so on. CBP Prohibited and Restricted Items

Recently we went to a Back to School festival near to us. At the event, they had a car show, snacks, booths for school children to get supplies , and also booths from the local police and border protection agencies. One of the booths, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, had a variety of unique items on display, including gem-covered beetles, vials of weevils in food products, leather from a sea turtle and elephant, and a bird claw.
