Monday Munchies: Pecan Crescent Cookies

I have a special cold weather treat for you today. It really has nothing to do with autumn/winter, other than the fact that it looks snow dusted. And, living in Texas, we have to make our snow since it does not fall from the sky. So, the recipe I am going to share with you is this:

I love these cookies because they are so sweet and sugary. Our little helper,
Argos, does ,too.


 The ingredients needed for this recipe are not many, but can be very expensive sometimes.
  • 2 sticks butter or margarine (1 cup)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 teaspoons skim milk
So, the first thing to do, as always, is to preheat your oven to a toasty 350º F. Next is to:

 If you squeeze the dough in your hand and work it for a couple seconds, it is no longer crumbly and is able to be shaped. Also, the cookie sheet should be ungreased or they will all slide to the center while cooking. Now you can stick the cookies in the oven for 12- 15 minutes. When the cookies are done, let them cool for just a few minutes, then,

 Use as much powdered sugar as you need  to coat the cookies well. Now you have a yummy treat that is sure to make your heart buzz with sugar! :) Do you have snow dusted treats you love?

  1. I don't know about "little helper" but Argos sure does guard the kitchen floor for any spills! And he is very happy to help clean any of those messes up for us!

With Apologies to Robert Frost

I have a class for school called Speech. This is supposed to help me learn how to stand properly while speaking, pronounce words properly, and so on. The most recent section is on how to give meaning and feeling to a  poem when reading one out loud. My teacher, Mrs. Autrey, has been reciting poems to us as examples, and she uses a variety such as happy poems, sad poems, thoughtful and so on. One of them that caught my attention was a funny remake of the famous poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost.   The original is one of my favorite poems, and I have always loved the other poetic works of Robert Frost. CBP Prohibited and Restricted Items

Recently we went to a Back to School festival near to us. At the event, they had a car show, snacks, booths for school children to get supplies , and also booths from the local police and border protection agencies. One of the booths, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, had a variety of unique items on display, including gem-covered beetles, vials of weevils in food products, leather from a sea turtle and elephant, and a bird claw. Well, we learned from one of the officers at the booth that these were all illegal items to try to bring over the border. Lets start with the gem-covered beetle.
