Mujeres de Esperanza/ Saturday Sweetly

Today is a special Saturday. Today we, the women of Iglesia Bautista Esperanza, had another fellowship, and I have a delicious recipe "approved" by the women. This is another quick-bread recipe, our homemade Pumpkin quick-bread.


 So, here are the ingredients you will need for this recipe:
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup oil
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin
  • 3 ½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 2/3 cup water

Here is a picture of all the ingredients, as well as the finished product.
As always, the first step to each recipe is to preheat your oven.

      1.  Preheat your oven to 350º F.

2.  Next, using an electric mixer, combine sugar, oil and eggs. Beat until light and fluffy.

3. Stir in the pumpkin. This will make the mixture very thin, but it will get thicker in the next few     steps.

4. Now, in a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda,      ground cloves, cinnamon, and allspice.

5. Once the dry ingredients are combined together, stir it into the pumpkin mixture.

6. Afterwards, add the water, mixing well.

7. Spoon the batter into two well-greased 9x5x3-inch loaf pans, or, if you have it, two well-greased 9x5x3-inch loaf pans and a half-loaf pan.

8. Now the batter is ready to bake in a 350º F oven for 65 to 75 minutes.

9.  Once fully baked, allow to rest in the pan 5 minutes before removing from the pan.

Now you have a yummy recipe for pumpkin quick-bread that has been "approved" by the Women of Esperanza. Also, here is a glimpse of what we learned today in the fellowship: we talked about how God is a better friend to us than any human can hope to be. Hope you enjoy!

    You had mentioned adding chocolate chips to this recipe. Not sure if I would like that for myself, but I wondered if you would include it here anyway......

      I thought about adding chocolate chips into the list of ingredients at the end with the word (optional.)

With Apologies to Robert Frost

I have a class for school called Speech. This is supposed to help me learn how to stand properly while speaking, pronounce words properly, and so on. The most recent section is on how to give meaning and feeling to a  poem when reading one out loud. My teacher, Mrs. Autrey, has been reciting poems to us as examples, and she uses a variety such as happy poems, sad poems, thoughtful and so on. One of them that caught my attention was a funny remake of the famous poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost.   The original is one of my favorite poems, and I have always loved the other poetic works of Robert Frost. CBP Prohibited and Restricted Items

Recently we went to a Back to School festival near to us. At the event, they had a car show, snacks, booths for school children to get supplies , and also booths from the local police and border protection agencies. One of the booths, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, had a variety of unique items on display, including gem-covered beetles, vials of weevils in food products, leather from a sea turtle and elephant, and a bird claw. Well, we learned from one of the officers at the booth that these were all illegal items to try to bring over the border. Lets start with the gem-covered beetle.
