Saturday Sweetly:Oatmeal Cinnamon Raisin Cookie Bars

Today, I am going to share with you a simple cookie recipe that I love, even with the raisins in it!

I am normally not a huge fan of raisin cookies (even if my Mom makes the best in
the world), but I do love this cookie with the cinnamon chips in it. So, to start off, you are going to need these ingredients
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine , softened
  • 2-1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 1-2/3 cups (10-oz. pkg.) HERSHEY'S Cinnamon Chips
  • 3/4 cup raisins

Now, the ever-present first step is to pre-heat your oven to 350º F. Next, combine all the sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and flour together. Now, in a separate bowl, melt the butter and whisk together with the eggs and vanilla extract. Add this to the dry mixture. Stir well. When this is thoroughly combined, add and stir in the oats, cinnamon chips, and raisins one ingredient at a time. Stir well after each ingredient. Now the dough will be extremely thick, and make your arm ache from stirring it, but the cookie bars are worth it. Grease a 9x13 pan well, and spoon in the dough, spreading it out evenly. Bake for 20 to 22 minutes or until edges are light brown. Yum!

So, there you have a twist on a classic cookie recipe good for anytime of the year!

    I learned something new. I didn't even know they made Cinnamon Chips. I may have to try them in something now. Thanks for the tip.

      They occasionally sell these Cinnamon Chips, but our local grocery recently stopped selling them. We also had them in our zuccinni bread this morning. :)

With Apologies to Robert Frost

I have a class for school called Speech. This is supposed to help me learn how to stand properly while speaking, pronounce words properly, and so on. The most recent section is on how to give meaning and feeling to a  poem when reading one out loud. My teacher, Mrs. Autrey, has been reciting poems to us as examples, and she uses a variety such as happy poems, sad poems, thoughtful and so on. CBP Prohibited and Restricted Items

Recently we went to a Back to School festival near to us. At the event, they had a car show, snacks, booths for school children to get supplies , and also booths from the local police and border protection agencies. One of the booths, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, had a variety of unique items on display, including gem-covered beetles, vials of weevils in food products, leather from a sea turtle and elephant, and a bird claw. Well, we learned from one of the officers at the booth that these were all illegal items to try to bring over the border. Lets start with the gem-covered beetle.
