Monday Munchies: Orange Soak Cake

I have another recipe for you guys, but this one is very simple, which is why I decided to use it for this Monday post, rather than a Saturday Sweetly post.

This is a super moist, delicious recipe Mom found on the back of a brand name box of cake mix. We tried this cake just yesterday, and loved it, so I thought I would share it with
you. These are the ingredients for the cake.
            For the cake
  • 1 package Orange Cake Mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup oil
Now, to make the cake all you have to do is follow the instructions on the back of the cake mix box. For our brand cake, we used the ingredients above, also shown in the below photo.

So, bake the cake. Once the cake is cooked, allow to cool 5 minutes and then you will need to poke holes in the cake using a chopstick or fork, like this.

You need to top the cake with the glaze while it is warm. Here is what you need for the glaze now:

              For the glaze
  • ⅓ cup orange juice
  • 2 cups confectioner’s sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted

Where the ingredients says "orange juice" we thought, "Why pay for a jug of orange juice we don't need, lets just buy a fresh orange!" After being thoroughly squeezed, the orange gave us almost the exact amount we needed. So, to make the glaze, start by melting the butter in a microwavable bowl. Then, add the butter and orange juice to the powdered sugar and whisk that all together until it looks something like this.

Now the glaze is ready to be poured over the cake. Make sure not to wait too long to pour it, as the glaze starts to harden.

And there you go! Once the cake is covered in glaze, allow it to cool completely.  Store loosely covered.

With Apologies to Robert Frost

I have a class for school called Speech. This is supposed to help me learn how to stand properly while speaking, pronounce words properly, and so on. The most recent section is on how to give meaning and feeling to a  poem when reading one out loud. My teacher, Mrs. Autrey, has been reciting poems to us as examples, and she uses a variety such as happy poems, sad poems, thoughtful and so on. One of them that caught my attention was a funny remake of the famous poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost.   The original is one of my favorite poems, and I have always loved the other poetic works of Robert Frost. Here is the original poem: Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening By Robert Frost   Whose woods these are I think I know.    His house is in the village though;    He will not see me stopping here    To watch his woods fill up with sn...

Monday Munchies: Peanut Butter Blossoms

Today's recipe has a little more work involved than some of my recipes I've shared, but the result is worth the effort. The ingredients for these cookies are as follows:
