And Many More!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you,Happy Birthday dear August, Happy Birthday to you!

For those of you who might not have known, today was my brother August's birthday. Every birthday, the person being celebrated gets to choose everything from foods to activities on the weekend closest to the special day. I'm not going to go into the details of every minute of our weekend, but I am going to show you some of the fattening foods and the (sometimes boring) games we had fun with.   Read More...

Shown above was the "birthday cake" my brother chose this year. While not technically a cake, I have to say it was my type of dessert with three types of chocolate and some peanut butter cup ice cream to go with it!

My brother is special, asking for two birthday cakes in one birthday.

I wonder if next year he will ask for three?
We ate this one, a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, today.
August has an obsession with Rubik's cubes. Before his birthday, he had the normal 3x3 Rubik's cube, and could solve it in under a minute. Now he has gained two more, a 2x2 and a 4x4.
He figured out the 2x2 pretty quickly, finishing it in around five minutes, but he said he had practice solving it on an app on his phone.
While Mom was fixing lunch on Sunday, Dad and August played a game called Risk. Basically it is a world domination game based on the roll of dice, and is very boring. August tried to convince me to play it with him and Dad, saying it could be another birthday present, but I finally convinced him that two presents was more than enough from me.
Unfortunately, the Birthday Boy lost this game.
So, there it is. My brother's 16th birthday. He's had a great time so far, and we are going to top it off soon with a movie at the theater. Happy Birthday, August!

Can we make it when we come to visit? Zeke is very special, but two cakes, plus ice cream? Next he might want three cakes. LOL.

With Apologies to Robert Frost

I have a class for school called Speech. This is supposed to help me learn how to stand properly while speaking, pronounce words properly, and so on. The most recent section is on how to give meaning and feeling to a  poem when reading one out loud. My teacher, Mrs. Autrey, has been reciting poems to us as examples, and she uses a variety such as happy poems, sad poems, thoughtful and so on. One of them that caught my attention was a funny remake of the famous poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost.   The original is one of my favorite poems, and I have always loved the other poetic works of Robert Frost. Here is the original poem: Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening By Robert Frost   Whose woods these are I think I know.    His house is in the village though;    He will not see me stopping here    To watch his woods fill up with sn...

Monday Munchies: Peanut Butter Blossoms

Today's recipe has a little more work involved than some of my recipes I've shared, but the result is worth the effort. The ingredients for these cookies are as follows:
