Monday Munchies: No Bake Cookies

Today I have a family favorite that can be a cold-weather treat or a simple-to-make snack for anytime.
Now, it is debatable as to whether these are a cookie or a candy. Since they have no flour or leavening, they might be a candy; but I have always heard of these as "No Bake Cookies" or
simply "No-Bakes". So, for these cookies, you will need these ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 3 cups oats
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Also, you will need some wax paper and a cookie or ice cream scoop. The scoop makes it easy to measure your cookie, but also easy to get the cookie out. We use this type:

So, the first step is to put the sugar, margarine, cocoa, and milk together in a pot over high heat. Let that come to a boil, stirring as it melts.
While you wait for that to boil, you will need to quickly measure the peanut butter and oats. (It is actually better to have this done ahead of time so you can focus on the sugar mixture.)
Once the sugar mixture is boiling, quickly:
Now the no-bakes are ready for one of two things. You can either scoop into bowls and serve warm as a nice hot treat, or you scoop the mixture onto wax paper to cool.
I like these either way, but if you eat a lot of it at once, make sure to have a cup of milk nearby! I hope you enjoyed this recipe, and feel free to leave any comments on the post below or on Facebook.

With Apologies to Robert Frost

I have a class for school called Speech. This is supposed to help me learn how to stand properly while speaking, pronounce words properly, and so on. The most recent section is on how to give meaning and feeling to a  poem when reading one out loud. My teacher, Mrs. Autrey, has been reciting poems to us as examples, and she uses a variety such as happy poems, sad poems, thoughtful and so on. CBP Prohibited and Restricted Items

Recently we went to a Back to School festival near to us. At the event, they had a car show, snacks, booths for school children to get supplies , and also booths from the local police and border protection agencies. One of the booths, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, had a variety of unique items on display, including gem-covered beetles, vials of weevils in food products, leather from a sea turtle and elephant, and a bird claw.
