Happy Thanksgiving! Don't Forget to Remember

Over the years, the last Thursday of November has changed from "Happy Thanksgiving" to "Happy Turkey Day!" This shows me that people have forgotten the true meaning of the Thanksgiving holiday. While it is fine to get together and eat a lot of food, there is also another reason for the holiday, written right in its name. Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks. When the first Thanksgiving Day was held with the Pilgrims and Indians, they got together, not only to eat food, but to express their thanks to God for providing them with help through the coldest winter they had known. So, this Thanksgiving, don't forget to remember the true meaning of the holiday: giving thanks.

  1. Salvation
  2. Family to spend time with
  3. Safety in our area
  4. Plenty of food, and for my Mom teaching me how to cook
  5. A warm house the whole year 'round.
  6. My two dogs, Bo and Argos

  1. Amen! I agree with all the things you are thankful for (well, except for the warm house - I prefer a cool house most of the year!!) Also thankful for our church family here. They are a special blessing to me.

  2. I am also thankful for my salvation, for God's love in sending His own dear Son to earth for us that first Christmas. Of course, I am thankful for my family (dogs included), our home, and for God's provision each and every day. He never fails us. I also give thanks to God for his promises, which He never breaks. We have hope through Him because His Word is truth.

  3. I am thankful that for my family and that everyone is basically very healthy. At least more healthy than a lot of other people in this world.
Many years ago Grampy told me that worrying about things wouldn't help. He said that whatever we truly NEED, God will provide. I am grateful that he has been proven right more than once over the years. Hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving. Love you. Granny

With Apologies to Robert Frost

I have a class for school called Speech. This is supposed to help me learn how to stand properly while speaking, pronounce words properly, and so on. The most recent section is on how to give meaning and feeling to a  poem when reading one out loud. My teacher, Mrs. Autrey, has been reciting poems to us as examples, and she uses a variety such as happy poems, sad poems, thoughtful and so on. One of them that caught my attention was a funny remake of the famous poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost.   The original is one of my favorite poems, and I have always loved the other poetic works of Robert Frost. Here is the original poem: Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening By Robert Frost   Whose woods these are I think I know.    His house is in the village though;    He will not see me stopping here    To watch his woods fill up with snow.    My little horse must think it queer

Today's recipe has a little more work involved than some of my recipes I've shared, but the result is worth the effort. The ingredients for these cookies are as follows:
